The couple made their radio debut in 1930s on ‘BBC’ network and slowly became one of the most popular comedians of the era. She was interred at the ‘Freedom Mausoleum’ at ‘Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, California’. The Burns and Allen publicity machine was always thinking and aside from the missing brother stunt, there were several others that took off into the stratosphere. It was 1959, not 1958. Gracie finally retired from the show business in 1958, after getting tired of playing the same character for so many years. In 1940, Gracie announced she was running for the President of the United States on Surprise Party ticket, and toured all over the US to perform gigs. She was also inducted into ‘Television Hall of Fame’ with George Burns in 1988. In 1932, they appeared in their first feature film called, ‘The Big Broadcast’, which was very well-received by the audience. America fell in love with Gracie Allen as soon as she hit the airwaves playing ditzy Gracie to Burns’ straight man in the longest comedy collaboration in show business history – Burns and Allen. The “Burns and Allen” radio shows during this period are extremely fun to listen to. She was honoured by James L. Brooks who named ‘Gracie Films’ after her. The missing brother joke permeated the airwaves, supermarket aisles – you name it – with Gracie asking detective agencies in every city she visited to help her find her brother. It was Gracie’s brother who marketed an umbrella with holes in it so you’d be able to see when the rain stopped. Good condition. Her husband died 32 years later after Gracie, at the age of 100, and was interred beside her wife, with the crypt saying, ‘Gracie Allen (1902–1964) and George Burns (1896–1996) - Together Again’. Some of their radio shows were ‘The Robert Buns Panatella Show’(1932-33), ‘The Adventures of Gracie’ (1935-37), ‘The Swan Soap Show’ (1941-45), ‘Maxwell House Coffee Time’ (1945-49) etc. It went on and on. The show was ended in their class act style of vaudeville, and some old routines. She died in 1964, after suffering from a heart attack in Los Angeles, California. Burns and Allen were always a domestic act, never a topical one that incorporated the serious issue of politics – although Gracie had seriously considered running for Governor of the State of Coma, which she claimed to have lived in for many years. She is known for her work on The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show (1950), Bob Monkhouse's Comedy Heroes (2004) and Meet the Stars #3: Variety Reel #1 (1941). Though terrified about what might happen, Gracie ventured on and when the whistle-stop train tour made its first stop in Riverside, California, 3,000 people were waiting for The Surprise Party candidate.
