Nowadays she's probably better known for the Starbridge series, which I suspect a lot of people think is a more respectable read, and these earlier blockbusters have gone a bit out of fashion. Made the mistake of lending it to someone who did not return it and had to purchase it again about 30 years ago. She fails miserably, and it reminded me of just how good these books are, and how hard it is to pull this sort of thing off.
